This project is being implemented in collaboration with OMPLIS, a federation of women’s groups. 4000 women are being assisted in this project to enhance their incomes.
The project uses a multi-stepped strategy which includes:
i. Organising the women in groups of 10-15, called self-help groups (SHGs).
ii. The groups are then trained in the skills of increasing small savings so that some credit needs can be met out of their own funds.
iii. Groups are also provided basic skills in management and governance, which helps create an aspirational plan for each member.
iv. Later, they are connected with banks and government schemes to leverage credit.
v. In certain extreme cases, the project also provisions direct grants to some of the deprived families.
