InterGlobe Foundation has successfully completed a remarkable heritage conservation project involving tile restoration on the dome of Muhammad Qutb Shah's Mausoleum at the Qutb Shahi Heritage Park in Hyderabad. This project, in partnership with AKTC, aims to preserve and celebrate the rich cultural and architectural legacy of the monument.
The restoration project focused on the dome’s elegant, glazed tilework, meticulously restoring its vibrant colours and intricate designs. A major achievement was the manufacturing of over 80,000 glazed green tiles, specifically crafted to match the original tile composition and color. Skilled craftsmen carefully sorted, cured, and installed these tiles, covering 850 square meters (approximately 9,000 square feet) of the dome's surface. The expertise of these craftsmen ensured the precise placement of each tile, contributing to the faithful restoration of the monument’s architectural grandeur.
Preserving authenticity was a paramount concern throughout the restoration process. During the work, it was discovered that only 3% of the original glazed tile bases remained intact. Despite being weathered over time, these fragments hold immense historical value and were meticulously preserved on the dome, offering a tangible connection to the Qutb Shahi period.
This accomplishment marks a crucial step towards reviving the monument’s architectural and cultural significance. It significantly enhances the understanding of Qutb Shahi architecture, showcasing the intricate craftsmanship and historical importance of this heritage site.
InterGlobe Foundation firmly believes that the conservation, preservation, documentation, and promotion of our cultural heritage is essential to ensuring these treasures are available for future generations. Projects like the restoration of the dome of Muhammad Qutb Shah's Mausoleum underscore its dedication to the same.
The Foundation aims to motivate people to protect, preserve, promote, and raise awareness about the value and importance of heritage and culture in India.
